The Kingdom of Thailand

Today we were able to see two very different ways of life in Bangkok.

The first place we visited was The Grand Palace, built by King Rama I.  While we were ther, we say these guards standing in front of the palace, which we assumed was the standard for all the tours.  Right after the picture was taken, we were told to clear the area, and a motorcade pulled up.  It dropped off the passenger and left along with the honor guard seen in the picture.

Following a great lunch of Pad Thai, we toured the Vimanmek Mansion (another royal home), and the Royal Elephant National Museum.  Then we took a boat ride through the canals.

At one point on the trip through the canals, the driver stops at the hardware store and picks up a large cement ring.
